moving in and moving on;

alhamdulillah. it felt like just yesterday I updated this space, and now we've finally moved into our new rental. the long awaited rental. a sigh of relief to have so much space alhamdulillah just in time for the lockdown that was announced throughout England.

it didn't happen without any dramas though. throughout our 6years and counting of moving in between states back in Australia, we've had pleasant experiences. maybe its a new thing being in a different country altogether but I am told that we are just unlucky. Upon receiving the house, it wasn't at its best state. The fridge and freezer were dirty, and had left over food inside them. The kitchen sink had stains of left over food, the trash drawers weren't emptied, floors were dirty ( not mopped ) and had lots of stains. The carpets for me were the biggest disappointment. Being here, most houses are carpeted. most rooms in this house were carpeted, and it was stained so badly, I couldn't allow the kids and us to release our shoes. I assumed the process would be the same in Aussie, upon entering the property, the house would be at its best state, clean, and we'd then have to fill in an incoming report, so when we leave the house in future, we'd have to return it at its state as when we received it. well, I think in a way it makes it easier for us then. haha not having to clean it up thoroughly when we decide later to move houses.

anyway, our landlord spoke to the previous tenants, who then came and cleaned the kitchen area, fridge freezer and emptied their trash and wiped them clean. it was satisfying enough. they did tell us, that they mopped and vacuumed the house before they left ( and admitted that they totally forgot about the kitchen part ), and it was actually the landlord's technicians and maintenance guys that came in after them with their boots and tools and all that made it dirty all over again.

he then offered to bring in his guys to steam clean the carpets sometime the week after. but there was no way we would wait that long, as we were already moving in officially and would have to sleep on a mattress on the floor as our bed frames were scheduled to arrive much later. Azhar then offered him a swap. he said he would do the steam cleaning now, and that he could then get his guys to do it for when we leave in the future. and they both came to an agreement with that.

SO.

Azhar steamed clean the carpets before we brought the kids over. (luckily we had an extra night at the airbnb), and when it was all done, he then picked up the kids and I , and I worked on the floors myself.

so that was our small hiccup upon moving in. but it went okay. its nice to be back in the kitchen with my things from Perth. Our Sydney shipment has yet to arrive so there are a lot of other furnitures that we are still waiting on. We currently have a dining table and a bench. a few carpets, and new mattresses for the boys and us. I have a few kitchenwares just the basics but enough for daily use.

anyway, that's it for now. the weather this morning was a low -1. this is new for me. I'm always hungry and always cold hahaha. quite thankful for the lockdown as it would motivate us to stay home a lot more. praying for all the businesses and everyone affected by it to stay strong, and hoping this difficult, weird phase would pass us.

until then.
