To my amusement, I saw most of the buying and selling being done by the women. There are still men around, and a number of them doing what the women normally do. But the bigger half of them, would be at that corner, I secretly call ' the men's waiting island '. As if knowing there would be the groups of men, playing 'good husbands' to their wives, they make it obviously clear that they're helping every way possible to be part of this important chore, by just being present. Phsyically there.
I give you money, now you go buy what we need back home. I'll wait for you here. With this newspaper to keep me company. Drop your things here, and I'll carry them for you to the car. I love you, now be smart spending those ringgits I gave. Buy only what we need, nothing more, nothing less.
I chuckled by this monologue-ing thing that I normally do. So alright, its not as clear cut as how I said it. These are all unspoken words, something between husband and wife, that somehow, just somehow, both of them understand without having to say it out loud. Like implied terms. There's no need to say it, but it is done by implementation.
Oh and then you see two young couples, hand-in-hand, walking ever so slowly from the fish section, to the vege section, discussing together, choosing things together, as if the whole market place was like the hall they'll choose for their wedding ceremony. That close, that intimate, that important. Now as time passes by, I see the same young, okay, now older- man, comfortably blends himself in the 'men's island' and leaves the rest to his not so new wife to do.
I guess this is normal? Its not a big deal, I know. And there are some bigger things to ponder about like how well our new PM would do us, how he's going to manage to cut slacks, erase that negative image he managed to get himself into prior to his election. Oh you can get many juicy news from fellow bloggers, do update yourselves, it's only for your own good.
I cant help but to ponder on the finer things in life. How easy it is to actually execute the right things in the right way , but also wonder what the hell is stopping us from doing so. Just like politics. Just like life. Just like everything else one can ever think of.
Im not saying blending yourself in the 'island' is wrong.
And, I have no problems going to the market, and buying things on my own. Really, I dont. But just so you'd know, it would always be nicer, and pleasurable to have a partner to do things with.
" Nak orang macam mana? Handsome? Anak raja jugak? Bijak pandai? "
- " Nak orang yang pegi pasar beli barang togader-gader, masak togader-gader, kemas rumah togader-gader, gi kerja togader-gader, semua benda pun lah togader-gader. Ala, macam belangkas. "
"Nanti bosan, kau yang susah, "
- " Kalau tak nak bosan, jangan kahwin. Kau bangun pagi, muka dia, sebelum tidur malam, tengok muka dia lagi, kau pusing sana pusing sini, muka dia lagi. Memang macam tu pun, "
" Stok laki macam kau nak dah habis. Dua tiga je, gerenti semua dah kawin "
- " Okay, takpa. Tunggu Sultan masuk meminang. Cuba tengok tv, gi memana je togader-gader. Thats the closest I can get to. So okay lah, "
" Tua macam tu kau nak? "
- " Darurat. Nak buat macam mana. "
" You're wishing for stars. It's too high to reach, " Saufster told me.
" I'm wishing for stars alright. Yes, high to reach. But I know its there, "
To all the great things in life, to doing other's well, to happiness, to joy, to every single thing you can think of.
